Wirrabarra markets

My third market at Wirrabarra. Very cold day. I had a lot of fun chatting and spinning.

I won't be at August's market in Wirrabarra. I'm off to Adelaide that weekend.

I will be at the Pirie markets.

Profile: Tracy Henwood

I learned to knit when I was five, starting my life long obsession for creating. I find magic in transforming fluff into stuff. I love to explore, play and learn, adding to my knowledge of fibre and textiles. My passion for learning, leads me from one fibre craft to another.

Spinning is my latest obsession, turning fluff into yarn. I dye many of the fibres I work with. I love working with colour and blending different fibres together. I get great satisfaction in taking raw fleece through the process of washing, dyeing, carding, spinning and using the resultant yarn to produce stuff.

The irregularities, the varying of the diameter of the yarn, the inconsistency of twist and the lumps and bumps are what makes my hand spun yarn unique. Each skein of yarn tells the story of its spin, how relaxed or tense I was when I sat at my wheel. My yarns are one off creations.

My yarns are stocked at Wirrabarra Craft House, Wirrabarra and Glasgow House, Jamestown.
